HOW TO PREPARE CATFISH PEPPERSOUP

         Peppersoup is another Nigerian delicacy that is highly medicinal with aromatic spices,Which can be eaten anytime of the year especially during periods of recuperation, after illness,childbirth and occasions like owambe,Naming ceremony,meetings etc.Peppersoup can be prepared with any proteins like assorted,cowleg,goat meat, beef,chicken or Turkey or any fresh fish, But you know catfish is commonly and popularly used in making pepper soup. I will be sharing with you different types of peppersoup. So,kindly Check out my next blogging for i will be writing on how to prepare GOATMEAT PEPPERSOUP WITH BOILED PLANTAIN. its very easy to cook, plantain is only added to the recipe and a switch of goat meat instead catfish. 

             So let gets down to business. Below I will be stating the recipes needed In preparing this aromatic medicinal soup.
INGREDIENTS

•Catfish (1kg)
•calabash nutmeg  (4seeds)
•Chilli pepper
•dry uziza(2teaspoon)
•Onions
•Crayfish grinded (2tablespoon)
•Seasoning(3 cubes)
•Thyme and curry
•Uziza leaf
•salt to taste.
•scentleaf 

PREPARATIONS

-Heat frying pan and roast the nutmeg seeds(stiring constantly)till you can Smell it(don't worry you will know when its okay to take it off because it has distinctive aroma. or another way to know that it is okay is to take one of the seeds and try to remove the outer membrane,if it comes off easily then the seed is done)

-Peel off the membrane from all the seeds and grind with dry mill blender.Dive the onions into tiny pieces,rub the dry uziza with your fingers to break them into tiny pieces.

-cut in three to four places your catfish,wash thoroughly,put in a pot and pour enough water to cover the contents of the pot, Add your cube,thyme and curry,onions and cook till done

-Make sure to check your fish on fire as it gets done on time.

-Add the ground nutmeg,crayfish, dry uziza,chilli pepper,scent leaf and uziza leaf

-Salt to taste.

-Cover the pot and leave to cook for 10mins

- Check your cooking and taste for any adjustments

-CATFISH PEPPERSOUP IS READY.


Notables:
°If you are using assorted beef in preparing your Peppersoup, you should cook the stripe skin cow(shaki) for sometime before adding the other beef parts, why is because shaki takes longer to cook.
°If preparing with cowleg its advisable to use pressure cooker ,to save gas.
°Nutmeg has some spicy taste,so you should add chilli pepper with care, even though it is called Peppersoup, you still want to be able to taste and enjoy the recipe.
°This same method can be used in preparing any kind of PEPPERSOUP.
